Broncos bomb; Raiders, Chiefs surprise
DENVER, Colo. - This in one of those Mondays when it hurts just to climb out of bed. Nonetheless, here are my thoughts on the Denver Broncos and the rest of the NFL, starting with other happenings in the league.

First and foremost: How the heck do the Chiefs and Raiders not only win, but win on the same day, against the two best teams in the AFC North? Stars like that align once every 1,000 years, and we all bore witness. If for nothing else, mark down Sunday, November 22, 2009 as the beginning of The Apocalypse.

The Indianapolis Colts are still unbeaten, but to Mercury Morris I say this: remain calm! The Colts next four opponents: @ Houston, vs. Tennessee, vs. Denver, @ Jacksonville.

The New Orleans Saints are still unbeaten, but to Ray Nagin I say this: batten down the hatches! The Patriots are next in line.

It's funny how things work in the NFL. The Browns and Lions have been un-watchably bad this entire season, yet when the two faced off Sunday, they produced one of the most entertaining games all year long. It's the equivalent to dumping motor oil on a pile of dirt and having it taste like a chocolate fudge sundae. It just doesn't make sense.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in big trouble. Big Ben got his bell rung yesterday (sorry, awful, awful pun there) and Charlie Batch is out for the season with a bad wing. If it's "Hello Dennis Dixon", then it's "Goodbye Super Bowl Repeat".

Now on to the Broncos.

It was bad against the Chargers, unspeakably bad. Hence, I won't speak of it. I will say this; the AFC Playoff Party has a 10-11 win cover charge, and if you don't bring that to the club, you're not getting past the velvet rope. The Broncos have three beatable opponents left on the slate (Chiefs twice, Raiders once), and three difficult ones ( Giants, @ Colts, @ Eagles). Going .500 the rest of the way won't cut it. They need to find a win against the latter three, and the best chance they have is against the Giants, this Thursday on FOX 31.

If the Broncos can do that, they stand a good chance of getting a Wild Card (I say Wild Card because the Chargers have the Chiefs, Browns, Titans and Redskins still on the schedule).

However, it's a crowded picture. The Jaguars and Steelers are also 6-4, the Texans can get to that mark with a win Monday night, and the Dolphins and Ravens are 5-5.

I apologize if that paints a gloomy picture Bronco-maniacs. Maybe it's best to crawl back into bed.
