DENVER—
Monday's blog was a fire dousing of sorts.I was so eager to share with you that the guys in the Denver Broncos locker room were very matter-of-fact about Sunday's loss to the Ravens, and weren't hanging their heads, that I neglected to offer up some thoughts on the rest of the action.
What's most interesting about the Saints is that, after Katrina destroyed New Orleans, is there anyone in the country who has a problem with them doing so well? This is definitely a team that you can tip the cap to from afar.
When the season began, I thought the Broncos would be heavy home underdogs to the Giants when the two teams meet up Thanksgiving night on FOX 31. Ha! The G-Men are shrinking by the game, and even with a loss, the Broncos are still one of the NFL's heavyweights.
I'm not going to pick on the NFC West this week. Congrats to Steven Jackson for scoring his first touchdown of the season against the Detroit Lions. He's been a fantasy owner's nightmare this year: not as productive as he should be, but too good to trade. I know firsthand, I own him in one of my leagues.
The AFC East is really weird like David Lynch "Twin Peaks" weird. Every team (save for the Buffalo Bills) has, at times, looked unbeatable. Yet the Patriots, Miami Dolphins and New York Jets, at other times, look entirely beatable.
The Indianapolis Colts have emerged as the (current) class of the AFC. They lead the conference in point differential, points allowed, and are fourth in scoring. But don't let that stat mislead you. The Colts have tallied 197 points. The Texans and Patriots have each scored 198, and the Ravens have scored 199.
Sunday, December 13 is going to be a great matchup between the Broncos and Colts. That game will almost certainly get flexed to primetime. Of course, between now and then, the Broncos have some tough games to play like Monday night against the Steelers. More on them on Wednesday.
