Commentary: QB Brady Quinn joins the Broncos
The FOX31 Sports Team breaks down the Broncos trade Sunday that is bringing Browns QB Brady Quinn to Denver.

Zubin's take on the Quinn trade:

Perhaps Josh McDaniels just feels like he needs a guy named "Brady". As you may have heard, that idea worked out well for him in his previous stop.

To me, the jury is still out on whether Brady Quinn will ever become worthy of his first round draft status. He is just 3-9 in 12 career starts. Though, that, in my estimation, is far too small a sample size to have an accurate gauge of his ability at the professional level. Playing for one of the NFL's worst teams further clouds his true skills. However, I do believe that this was a good move for Josh McDaniels.

He was interested in acquiring Quinn last offseason but by waiting until this year, he got the player he wanted at a fraction of what it would have cost in 2009. So, if Quinn works out, it's a steal. If not, the Broncos gave up very little to get him. Bottom line: low risk trade for a possible high level reward.

Sounds good to me.

Tanaka's take on the Quinn trade:

I know a lot of Broncomaniacs will be at very least scratching their heads over this deal, and at most, be banging them through a wall. Please do not do that.

Sure, Quinn may wind up as a complete bust, but considering he was acquired for pennies on the dollar, it's a worthwhile deal. Let's consider what Peyton Hillis brings to the table:

He's a solid fullback, and a credible fill-in tailback. He's a stalwart special teamer, but not much else. As cruel as it may sound, in the business of football guys like Peyton Hillis are commonplace. Sure, Hillis had a quality rookie season, but when you consider he wasn't even close to sniffing the top of a depth chart that included Michael Pittman, Selvin Young, Andre Hall, PJ Pope, Tatum Bell and Ryan Torain, it doesn't say much about his skill-set.

Will Quinn work out in Denver? Who knows, but at least he's a potential puzzle piece as the Broncos look to get back to the top of the division.

Tanaka's take: Good deal for the Broncos.

Josina Anderson's take on the Quinn trade:

I think the agreement to trade Broncos running back Peyton Hillis and two picks, for Browns quarterback Brady Quinn is an understandable move for both organizations. Furthermore, it's an opportunity for both players to get a fresh start--at the very least. In Hillis' case, when you go from being the Broncos leading rusher with 343 yards on the ground in Mike Shanahan's last year, to only recording 54 rushing yards under Josh McDaniels last season, the writing is on the wall. When McDaniels made Knowshon Moreno his 1st pick of last year's draft, the politics alone were too much for Hillis to overcome. The fact that Moreno had three more fumbles than Hillis alone stands as statistical proof of that fact. Hillis was one of the most versatile and courteous players in the Broncos locker room, and he definitely deserves second chance.

As for Brady Quinn, he certainly has a lot of potential despite the fact that his professional career has been inconsistent so far. His history boasts a blossoming under Charlie Weis, winning the Johnny Unitas award for the best quarterback in the nation to cap his collegiate career. Certainly his familiarity with Weis' system will help him here. I think Brady feeds off of the psychology of early success, and I believe he needs a smooth start to his tenure to really take off. The fact that Quinn held out his first season as a Brown, broke his finger in the next, and injured his foot last season certainly didn't help. While Brady's arrival creates competition with Kyle Orton under center, I believe the move has the potential to better both men.
