Only in its second year, 305hiphop.com is now astonishingly averaging more than 3 million hits a month and getting feedback both nationally and internationally. Begun as a bedroom operation in Hialeah by CEO Fillup Banks, the main purpose of the site was to "show local artists some love." But it has since become a touchstone for both the industry and fans of hip-hop. 305 has branched out to include promoting local acts and DJs for hire, providing studio and recording services as well as pressing CDs. "We are in the process of moving servers, and once we do, the system will change dramatically," Banks says. "Instead of downloading songs, there will be a single stream of radio and video shows we will put together. And we will also put out an actual magazine out in the streets. Put the word out: We are always looking for interns, because the work is getting out of hand." The Miami-grown mix tapes it offers have a worldwide customer base, and the industry is beginning to use 305 as a periscope to keep an eye on the Miami scene. When CNN wanted to know, "Who is this Pitbull?" it turned to 305.
