Search expands for missing hikers in Jefferson County
Searchers from numerous agencies joined efforts Monday morning in Jefferson County where two hikers were reported missing.

The search for a 26-year-old Ft. Carson soldier and his 19-year-old girlfriend was taking place in the area of Goose Creek in the Pike National Forest, according to Jeffco public information director Jackie Kelley. The trail is southwest of Deckers near Cheesman Reservoir.

The pair went for a hike Saturday morning and were due back at dinner time Saturday. When they didn't return, family members reported them missing Sunday morning, and a search involving 20-25 people from Jefferson and Park counties began Sunday at about 7:00 p.m. Searchers located the couple's vehicle at the trailhead.

The group of searchers Monday morning grew to include Summit County Search & Rescue, Arapahoe County Search & Rescue, Douglas County Search & Rescue, Alpine Search & Rescue, a battalion of soldiers from Ft. Carson, and the Civil Air Patrol.
