Iraq vet accused of killing girlfriend allegedly ordered hit on wife
DENVER - An Iraqi vet accused of murdering his girlfriend is now accused of trying to hire another inmate to kill his wife so she couldn't testify against him.

Denver Police had problems from the beginning with 24-year-old Robert Walters' story about how his girlfriend died. He told investigators he fell asleep while 22-year-old Brittney Brashers was driving and doesn't know why she crashed near Yuma and Cedar. But police suspicions were confirmed when Walters estranged wife called them and said he had confessed to her and she recorded it on her cell phone.

According to the arrest warrant, she said Walters called her and said he was angry at Brashers for participating in a topless photo shoot. She said he told her he punched Brashers, kneed her in the face and chocked her, yelling, "Why won't you die." She said he decided to "finish her off" so Brashers couldn't tell on him and then staged the car crash to cover up the murder.

A Jail inmate, known only as "Witness B" said Walters paid him $2,000 up front and promised another $4,000 if his wife was killed before the trial.

The wife is in witness protection and Walters now faces a new charge of soliciting to commit murder. His next court appearance is set for later this month.
