Early fan exodus a bad omen for Broncos
DENVER, Colo. - Fans headed for the exits at Invesco Field early Sunday as the Broncos lost not only the game, but the AFC West division lead to the San Diego Chargers. Some fans are clearly losing hope.

"This was the first time I've seen a lot of people leave early," says longtime fan Jan Coffey, who joined thousands of fans leaving the stadium late in the third quarter of Sunday's 32-3 loss. She says the offense was terrible and the quarterback iffy.

"I expected them to go to the playoffs. I'm not sure that's going to happen now," she says.

"We got 6 in a row there. But I think we're finished for the season, unfortunately," says fan Aaron Eye.

After winning 6 straight, the Broncos now dropped 4 in a row.

"They kind of [expletive] the bed in the last 4 weeks. I don't know how else I could say it," says Roscoe Perkins.

"We lost to Redskins, you know. That's a team we should have beat. The Chargers. This was a playoff game. We didn't beat 'em," says a disappointed Jeff Porter.

But other fans say the team is just as good as they thought they wouldn't be pre-season.

"[You got a] young team, new defensive team, new coach. You kind of expect they were not going to be so good. I think they surprised some people. And I think now a lot of teams have figured them out," says Don Kirkwood.

"I predicted them 5 and 11. So we're 6 and 4. Big deal. We'll come back. We'll bounce back. We'll get 'em. We'll get the Giants next week. I guarantee it, guarantee it," says Fred Mecillas.

Two years ago, Broncos fans also emptied the stadium in the third quarter as the Chargers routed the Broncos 43-3.
