Denver's bedbug problem biting toward new heights
DENVER - The City of Denver has a new dubious distinction. Terminix says Denver is the sixth most bedbug infested city in the country.

Peter Andress, the branch manager at Terminix in Denver, says the calls for bedbugs have exploded.

"About three years ago we used to get 5- 10 calls a month, and now we're getting hundreds of calls," Andress said.

He says there are so many travelers coming in and out of Denver that they may bring the bedbugs here, and then they spread quickly.

The bugs hide in your mattress or furniture, and then come out at night and feed on you.

Andress says he has treated countless homes and apartments, plus dozens of movie theaters and hotels in the area.

"The nicer hotels get them just as easy as the lower end hotels. (Bedbugs) don't discriminate."

To protect yourself, Andress says travelers should always check the bed in their hotel room. Never use the drawers in a hotel room.

Hang your clothes or keep them in your suitcase on a luggage rack. Once you get home, wash all of your clothes in hot water and leave the luggage in the garage.
