DENVER - Besides being a hit with the tech critics who call it "the best Google phone on the market" you might call the Droid the "Anti-iPhone, phone."
'"I'm just interested in the whole Android framework itself," said Michael Major, who's making the switch, "And I currently have an iPhone on AT&T and I'm not happy with the network."
'I was in the market I wanted an iPhone but I didn't want to switch and when Verizon came out with something comparable, that's what I want ," said Sue Bailey who's buying one for herself and one for her son.
Droid's also targeting Blackberry and it's loaded with super fast apps like instant video displays, talking Google maps, GPS, bar code scanning, phone book interface with Facebook and lightning switches between each application.
Boasting 12 thousand ready apps, adding hundreds a day, it's still far behind iPhone's 100-thousand apps.
But with it's super sharp screen and ease of use, Motorola, Google and Verizon plan to change the marketplace.
"And it is just one cool device," said regional Verizon spokesman Bob Kelley, "It has both the virtual keybord as well as a physical keyboard to, replaceable battery a lot of neat things that our customers have been asking for."
Customers were lined up here at opening and have been streaming in all day wanting to get their first hands-on try out.
"I actually lost my phone last week," saud Jeff Welty, "And I decided to wait and week and get this phone until it came out, read a lot of reviews a lot of them have been positive and starting to use the phone a little bit and I like it alot so far."
"I like the touch like I said to me that was a big deal a lot of the new ones that have come out have the touch but they're really you have to depress the screen and to me that's a little bit of a hassle," said Melissa Roche.
Most folks we talked to like the iPhone but they don't like it's service carrier.
"One of the most appealing things for me was the Verizon 3G fast speed network constantly on and I don't have to worry about switching back and forth and I know other people that have Verizon network and it's very solid for them," said Major.
