Coloradans were encouraged to pedal instead
of drive as part of the annual Bike to Work Day Wednesday.Cyclists who participated were offered breakfast, helmet fittings, prizes and other perks in Aspen, Durango, Fort Collins, Steamboat Springs, Denver and elsewhere.
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and House Speaker Terrance Carroll pedaled to work.
The Colorado Department of Transportation says the number of people participating in Bike to Work Day has risen steadily since 1995. In the Denver area, the number of participants in last year's event increased 60.
The League of American Bicyclists has sponsored National Bike Month and Bike to Work Day since 1956.
