DENVER - A warning for Auraria Campus students after several people were attacked and robbed on campus or inside their dorm rooms.
Denver Police are investigating 4 cases involving 5 students in incidents that have occurred over the past 3 weeks. In one case, 2 students were stabbed with a hatchet.
Police say the rash of violence started on February 16th when 2 suspects broke into student housing at the "Inn at Auraria" at 14th and Curtis. The suspects robbed a student and hit him with a bar before escaping.
On March 4th, a female student was attacked and mugged outside of her car at another student housing complex, the "Campus Village Apartments."
"Some guy just hit her over the head and mugged her," says Ruthie Pricryl. Ruthie knows the victim and says she was hit in the face with a bat.
Then, on Monday March 8th, another attack occurred at the "Inn at Auraria" when two suspects broke into an apartment, robbed two male students and stabbed them with a hatchet.
A few hours later, on Monday afternoon, a female student was assaulted while walking on 7th and Lawrence. She told police the suspect "tried to steal her purse and punched in her in the stomach."
Auraria Campus Police picked up 2 suspects shortly after the stabbing on March 8th. However, Denver Police don't know if those men are going to be charged with the crime. Police don't believe the crimes are connected but are still investigating the possibility.
Auraria Campus has scheduled a safety meeting on Wednesday March 10th at 11:30 am inside the Tivoli building.
